Data protection in the pandemic: a blessing or a curse?
On January 12, Monika Grethel provided information about the work of a data protection supervisory authority in the online public lecture "Data Protection in Practice". As Saarland's State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, she provided first-hand insight into the current topic of "Data Protection in the Pandemic." More than 130 participants followed the highly topical and interesting presentation.
Congress of corporate lawyers in Berlin
From the 5th to the 7th of February 2020 the congress of corporate lawyers took place in Berlin. Together with Björn Böker, VDI, Prof. Dr. Georg Borges presented the topic "The development and operation of a legal testbed as a virtual sandbox- a stress test for digital legal issues", the project "Recht- Testbed Industrie 4.0", in which the Institut of Legal Informatics is significantly involved in.

Liability and new technologies
On the 21st of Januay 2020 the event "Liability and new technologies" took place at the state representation of Saarland in Brussels. Prof. Dr. Dirk Staudenmeyer from the Directorate- General for Legal Affairs of the EU Commission and Prof. Dr. Georg Borges spoke on the report of the Expert Group liability and new technologies- new technology formation.

Münster Colloquium on EU Law and the Digital Economy
The Münster Colloquium on EU Law and the Digital Economy took place in Münster on 12th and 13th April 2018. The main theme of the colloquium was "Liability for Robotics and in the Internet of Things". Prof. Dr. Georg Borges lectured on the subject of "New liability concepts: the potential of insurance and compensation funds".

a-i3/BSI Symposium 2018
The 13tha-i3/BSI Symposium on the subject of "Protection of personality in times of IT-(in)-security" took place at the Centre for IT-Security in Bochum on the 20thand 21stMarch. Both Prof. Dr. Georg Borges and Prof. Dr. Christoph Sorge took part in this event.
Prof. Dr. Georg Borges used his lecture to talk about the discussion begun by the former Justice Minister, Heiko Maas, on the creation of a law for algorithms. He also considered application errors, the legal concerns raised by the evaluation of humans by machines and how errors in such evaluation should be dealt with. He made the point that the main challenge lies in the distinction between (inadmissible) discrimination and (admissible) unequal treatment.
