On January 12, Monika Grethel provided information about the work of a data protection supervisory authority in the online public lecture "Data Protection in Practice".  As Saarland's State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, she provided first-hand insight into the current topic of "Data Protection in the Pandemic." More than 130 participants followed the highly topical and interesting presentation.

So far, about 25 million downloads have been counted, and 200,000 test results have been shared. The use of the Corona warning app triggers controversial discussions: On the one hand, there are doubts about its effectiveness, on the other there is the question of whether so much data protection is useful in face of the pandemic. "The Corona warning app is meant to be just one piece of the puzzle to approach the topic of early detection", Grethel emphasized repeatedly. Saarland's data protection commissioner took the participants through the thought processes of a data protection supervisory authority when identifying hurdles and shedding light on restrictions that the use of the Corona warning app entails.
