Information regarding the application process set out in § 1 Section 5, 6, 7 of the Regulations concerning the Certificate in "IT-Law and Legal Informatics"
Application and admission to the Study Programme
Pursuant to § 1 Section 5, admission to the Certificate's study programme requires an application to be made.
A written application must be submitted using this registration form (available in German only).
Please complete the application form electronically, and attach documents supporting your application to your email. These should evidence both your academic qualifications and your personal suitability (as referenced in the criteria below) and include your CV, your exam results and should detail your previous experience in the area of IT-Law and Legal Informatics.
Final admission to the Certificate’s study programme is, pursuant to § 1 Section 7 of the Regulations, conditional upon registration at the Saarland University. If you are not already registered as a student, you must register as a “Guest Listener” (Gasthörer). You can obtain further information regarding this at the Centre for Lifetime Learning or from us directly.
Selection Criteria
According to § 1 Section 5 (2nd sentence) of the Regulations, the selection of applicants must take academic qualifications and personal suitability into account. The ranking of applicants should be established using the following three criteria:
1. Experience
Student applicants
The experience of student applicants is to be measured by reference to where they are in their studies. The further the students are in terms of the number of semesters studied and the exams passed to date, the higher in the ranking of applicants for admission purposes they will be.
Non-student applicants
In assessing the experience of non-student applicants, professional experience as well as the applicant’s age will be taken into account.
2. Performance
Student applicants
The exam results of student candidates, particularly in subjects relating to IT-Law and Legal Informatics, form part of the assessment criteria. The ranking of applicants for admission purposes will be linked to the quality of exam results achieved.
Non-student applicants
In the case of non-student applicants, we will evaluate the applicant’s previous performance, particularly in the fields of IT-Law and Legal Informatics, on the basis of specific professional qualifications (holders of a 'Fachanwalt' title, Certified Data Protection Officer etc). Previous exam performance will also be taken into account.
3. Interest
Both student and non-student applicants will be ranked by their level of interest in the subjects of IT-Law and Legal Informatics. Most relevant here is the level of previous involvement in the subject matter, for example through internships, computer clubs or topic specific training courses.
