On June 24, Professor Dr. Georg Borges gave a presentation on AI systems and product liability at the world's primary international conference addressing research in Artificial Intelligence and Law, the "ICAIL - 18th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law 2021". From 21 to 25 June, renowned scientists discussed their latest research findings and practical applications on the topic of Artificial Intelligence & Law in various lectures and workshops.

Professor Borges presented his paper on the topic of "AI Systems and Product Liability", which was also accepted as a full paper. The subject of the paper is the challenges of the application of product liability law to AI systems. Generally, product liability law is applicable to AI systems. However, the challenge is to link a single faulty behavior of an AI system to a "fault of the system", since the AI system responds to its surroundings. Yet another challenge is to prove the fault of a system in a court case.

ICAIL has been organized biennially since 1987. This year it was held as an online event.
